PRR F30a 50' Flat Car
1500 F30a Flat cars with cast steel frames were assembled at the PRR Pitcairn Shops in 1934. The car was 49' 4-3/4" over the platforms. During 1941 the AAR designated the design as a war-emergency standard to be used by other roads. In 1968 there were 1203 F-30’s on PRR’s roster and in 1980 there were 39 F30a’s on roster as Conrail cars. Some of the sub-classes were of welded construction and are identical in appearence to the F30a. In the middle 50’s many were converted to piggyback service and later became TTX cars. Paint and lettering schemes will include PRR, Penn Central, Conrail and others as we can identify other roads that used them.
