In the summer of 1931, 35 high speed, light
weight cars were delivered by the American Car and Foundry Co. to the Indiana
Railroad. These "IRR" cars operated between Louisville, Indianapolis
and Fort Wayne until 1941 when service was discontinued. Car #55 was then
purchased by the Lehigh Valley Transit Co. becoming their #1030. It joined 13
other similar cars (1000 - 1008 & 1020 - 1023) which had been previously
purchased from the Cincinnati and Lake Erie R.R. Co. The 1000 series operated
on the L.V.T. until September 1951 when they were replaced by buses. Number
1030 is now at the Seashore Trolley Museum near Kennebunkport, Maine.
Ex. Cedar Rapids & Iowa City Railway (Crandic)
#119, Ex. C&LE #119 is preserved at the Ohio Railway Museum. Crandic also
had one IRR car , #120.
Other similar cars were used by the Fonda,
Johnstown & Gloversville and the Philadelphia & Westchester.
